From 8th till 15th of December 2013 Poland has been
the host for the 2nd Comenius meeting of the “Warm at Home” project. This time
we have been hosting 8 students and 15 teachers from partner countries such as:
Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy, Turkey and Spain.
During the visit the Polish team has presented
everyone with the new project anthem. The music has been composed by Mrs Monika
Rzepecka-Tranda and lyrics have been the collective work of a student: Ms
Weronika Zmysłowska and teachers: Mrs Joanna Wilczyńska and Mr Dimitar
Dimitrov.
We have also conducted a photography competition
called „Warm at Home”. The first prize went to the Bulgarian team. The common
second place was won by teams from Turkey and Hungary. Our winners received
ecological lamps and all our partner school were given memory cushions with the
logo of the project. The author of the crocheting work is Mrs Elżbieta Ołubek.
In addition, each country presented their own system of education.

The meeting comprised of very interesting events and
activities among them:
-
The
meeting with the Vice-President of Łódź, Mr Krzysztof Piątkowski, from the City
of Lodz Office;
-
The
trip to Warsaw and a visit in the Museum of Technology, where we learned about
old and new technologies and ecological sources of energy to heat up the house
together with a lecture about the economy of the human body;
-
The
trip to the salt mine in Kłodawa;
-
The
trip to a medieval castle in Łęczyca with a lesson about the life in the Middle
Ages and a knight training of archery;
-
The
tour trip around Łódź along the pathways of old factory owners including the
visit in The White Factory and the Herbst Palace in the historical Księży Młyn
district, where we learned about how people used to sew materials and live in
the 18th and 19th century;
-
The
visit at the combined heat and power plant EC 4 in Widzew district, where the
Polish school is situated;
-
The
physics lesson on warmth and alternative sources of using energy.
The meeting was filled with a warm, friendly
atmosphere. We managed to achieve all the goals. Our partners from Europe were
under a great impression of the professionalism, organization, high quality of
the educational program and Polish hospitality. Children made friends and
communicated surprisingly well with each other irrespective of cultural
differences and initial language blockade. In spite of the cold weather
outside, the visit was highly marked by all the participants, and warmth,
friendliness and understanding were prevailing.
Some of the partners have already been to Poland
before. However, as they have observed: “there is always something surprisingly
interesting we discover here in Łódź”! This time it was the history of our city and the so-called icing on the cake
was the visit at the Herbst Palace and the salt mine in Kłodawa from which
everyone came back with lots of huge lumps of salt.

The next meeting is going to take place on 23rd
– 30th March in Hungary. We
look forward to this visit.
